THE REPLACEMENT
There have been a lot of arguments concerning the replacement of Jesus Christ after his departure.
Jesus promised a comforter, an advocate and a companion for his believers. Christians say according to Jesus Christ the comforter is a spirit not a man like us.
The non-Christians also say that the replacement Jesus Christ promised is supposed to be human like us.
They anchor their arguments on John 14:16; And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you ANOTHER COMFORTER, that HE may ABIDE WITH YOU FOR EVER;.
But for the purposes of this study and better understanding, I will like to add the verse 17;
John 14:17; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Jesus Christ said, the comforter is the Holy Spirit not a human being.
Somebody will ask “ but Jesus said HE not it”. The Bible never describe the Spirit as it because the Spirit is God operating in the world.
Bible says God is a spirit, which spirit is God?. The answer is simple, the Holy Spirit.
John 4:24; GOD IS A SPIRIT: and they that worship him must worship him IN SPIRIT and in truth.
Jesus Christ gave a description of who and how the Spirit will operate on earth. He said;
John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that HE MAY REMAIN WITH YOU FOREVER—
17 The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SEE HIM or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for HE LIVES WITH YOU [constantly] and WILL BE IN YOU.
The scripture above gives us some of the characteristics of the comforter.
1.……………………….,that He may remain with you forever.
The comforter is expected to live forever . But Mohammed died and was buried in Saudi Arabia awaiting judgement.
If Mohammed is the comforter Jesus Christ talked about why did he die?.
2…………………….because it does not see Him….…..
The comforter according to Jesus Christ will not be seen by men. Mohammed was seen by men, touched by men, ate with men, married and gave birth to children.
3……………….. will be in you.
The comforter Jesus Christ talked about will be IN us. His dwelling place will be inside our hearts not in a house build by men.
Looking at the qualities Christ gave about the comforter, Mohammed possesses non of them. In that case he cannot be the Comforter.
Jesus Christ also described the works of the comforter.
He said;
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
16:8 And when he is come, HE WILL REPROVE THE WORLD OF SIN, and OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and OF JUDGMENT:
16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
John.16.12 – I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and HE WILL SHEW YOU THINGS TO COME.
16:14 HE SHALL GLORIFY ME ( JESUS) : for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
1. …………. I will send him unto you.
The comforter will be sent to us by Jesus Christ himself. Muslims believe Mohammed was not sent by Jesus Christ and it’s true.
2. ………………….. he will reprove the world of sin, ……. because they believe not on me;
The comforter will campaign within us for people to believe in Christ. He will disapprove the world because they don’t believe in Christ.
He will keep us on the path of righteousness and holiness. He will direct us to believing in Christ not a Black stone somewhere in Mecca inside Ka’aba.
Mohammed came seeking followers for himself not Christ. Calling himself the Savior which the comforter will not dare do.
This point will be understood well in the next chapter.
3 …………. he will reprove the world of…righteousness………. because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
The comforter will teach people to know that they are made righteous because of Christ which Mohammed didn’t do. Mohammed disagrees that Jesus Christ is the son of God.
4. …………. he will reprove the world of……. Judgment….. because the prince of this world is judged.
The Spirit ( comforter) will lead to judge the schemes of the prince of this world (Satan). You will know and conquer the devil by the power of the comforter. Mohammed himself was conquered by the devil because he sined and sin comes from the devil.
5. …………….He Will Guide You Into all Truth
Mohammed made a lot of mistakes in his life, pointing out his blindness to what was right.
6. …………..He will Shew You Things to Come.
Mohammed knew not what will happen in the future. Many times he ascribed knowledge of the future to only his Allah. Even where he will go after death he didn’t know. He cannot be the comforter Jesus Christ talked about.
7. The comforter is expected to glorify Jesus Christ not himself;
He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
He will acknowledge Christ in all his dealings, he will be leading us to Christ not any other way. Mohammed never directed people to Christ, he instituted his own form of worship.
Mohammed cannot be the comforter when he possesses non of the qualities or the duties of the comforter.
I pray that as you read this book the Lord will open the wisdom in this book to your comprehension in Jesus Christ name!!!
