The word Messiah (Saviour) simply means the anointed or the chosen one to bring salvation to the world. There is this confusion as to who the true Messiah of the world is.
The debate and confusion has triggered me to look into the scriptures for the two main religions in the world; Islam and Christianity.
Who truly is the Messiah? Is it Jesus Christ or Mohammed? According to the scriptures, who is referred to as the Messiah?
Now let’s search for answers…
There is no account in the Qur’an referring to Mohammed (SAW) as the Messiah as believed by Muslims. The Messiah is only used to refer to Jesus Christ in Qur’an 3:45; (Recall the time) when the angels said, ‘O Mary! Allâh gives you good tidings through a (prophetic) word from Him (about the birth of a son) whose NAME IS THE MESSIAH, Jesus, son of Mary, (he shall be) worthy of regard in this world and in the Hereafter and one of the nearest ones (to Him).
In the above scripture, Jesus Christ is referred to as the Messiah ( Saviour).
If Muslims believe that the Qur’an is a holy and a book of truth then they should believe in the saving power of Jesus.
Bible says in Acts 4:11 and 12;
11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’
12There is salvation in NO ONE ELSE! God has given no other name under heaven BY WHICH WE MUST BE SAVED.”
Jesus said this about himself. He said;
Jesus told him, “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No one CAN COME to the Father EXCEPT THROUGH ME.(John 14:6)
If both the Qur’an and the Bible agrees that Jesus is the Messiah, then we can conclude that Jesus is the saviour of this world and should be believed.
My brother and sister salvation comes from no where but through Jesus Christ.
Both the Bible and the Qur’an admonishes us to obey Jesus as a way to getting ourselves saved.
Quran 3:50. “And (I come) confirming that which is before me, namely the Torah, and that I ( Jesus) declare lawful for you some of the things that had been forbidden to you. I come to you with a sign from your Lord, so take Allâh as a shield and OBEY ME.
Here the Qur’an is telling you and I to obey Jesus. Obedience to Jesus is a necessity for us as humans.
Somebody will say, “ but we obey Jesus “ “ we do all that he says”.
You can do all Christ said we should do but if you don’t accept him as a saviour of your life you will never be saved.
Romans 10:9-11
9 that if you CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH the Lord Jesus and BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT GOD HAS RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD , you will BE SAVED.
10 For with the HEART ONE BELIEVES unto righteousness , and with the MOUTH CONFESSION IS MADE UNTO SALVATION.
11 For the Scripture says , “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
So you see, its not doing only what he says that saves you but you have to confess that he is the Lord of your life and believe in your heart.
Qur’an 43:63
43:63………………. ‘I have indeed brought to you wisdom, and (I have come) to explain to you clearly some of the things over which you differ. So take Allâh as a shield and obey me.
Here the Qur’an repeats the same thing in Chapter 3:50 .
So if we want to be saved then we need to obey Jesus Christ.
