SAMUEL NASAM

Theme: DO ALL IN THE NAME OF THE LORD

Scripture: Colossians 3:17

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Doing all in the name of the Lord Jesus means to be conscious of your heritage in Christ; being lead by the Spirit of God in all your dealings. Basically, it means walking in the Spirit. To walk in the Spirit means to yield yourself to the Word of God. The bible says: James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

If you take steps outside the Word of God, you are not doing all in the name of the Lord. For example, Ephesians 6:1-2 talks about children obeying their parents in the Lord and honoring them. If you become rebellious against your parents in the Lord, you are not doing all in the name of the Lord.

Obey and honour your parents in the Lord does not mean you are to carry out anything they tell you to do even if it is not in line with the Word of God. That is why it is important to add, “… in the Lord.” That means, if they are telling you to do anything or not to do anything which is outside of what the Word of God says – do not heed. For example, if they are telling you to fornicate before marrying – do not heed. This is because the Bible says; 1 Corinthians 6:18

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

The benefits of doing all in the name of the Lord are enormous: David won the battle against Goliath because he went in the name of the Lord. The apostles walked in the power of the Spirit because they did all in the name of the Lord.

If you do all in the name of the Lord; goodness and mercies will follow you, and your life will become a full expression of the goodness and mercies of God.
