LOVE NOT THE WORLD – PART 1
1 John 2:15 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
Though we are in this world, we are not of the world. We are from God, we are citizens of God’s Kingdom. We are not of this world. Our love must be for God and towards the things of God. Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
At times, many of God’s people miss it when they read our opening verse. You have to read again: The Passion Translation 1 John 2:15 “Don’t set the affections of your heart on this world or in loving the things of the world. The love of the Father and the love of the world are incompatible.” Again, let’s read it from another translation: 1John.2.15 “Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father.” (MSB) If you really read it well, you will understand what I’m about to teach.
The Bible never said that you should not own things or possess things of this world. The Bible didn’t say you should be poor and begging. The Bible didn’t say don’t build houses and have nice cars. The Bible didn’t say don’t go to school.
He is telling you not to give your love for God to the world and the things in it.
