UNDERSTANDING
RIGHTEOUSNESS – PART TWO
Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Yesterday we learnt that one of the cardinal subjects that you should understand very well is the righteousness by faith in Christ. This is however one of the subjects many Christians have not received understanding in, causing them to err in their lives.
From the passage we read yesterday, we understand that we have been justified (declared not guilty). You will often hear some people say that we are all sinners and they will usually quote from verse 23 of chapter 3, the book of Romans: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” They make the mistake of not reading the whole thought Apostle Paul shared by the Spirit. You will notice the verse we read above does not end with a full stop and in fact, you cannot begin a good sentence with “for”. This means we cannot pause and make conclusions based on just this verse. It does not communicate the whole thought.
It was necessary that Jesus should go to the cross for us because all men from Adam are sinners but after the death and resurrection of Christ, we who have been raised together to life with Him are no longer sinners (by nature) we are now new creations in Christ Jesus. We who are in Christ are righteous just like Jesus.
This is because when Jesus was crucified on the cross, we were crucified with Him (our old self was crucified with Him). When He died, we died with Him (our old self died with Him). We will continue tomorrow!
