God With Us: When the Divine Entered Our World
If God the Father is the architect of salvation, then God the Son is the master builder who came to execute the plan. Jesus Christ is the central figure of human history and the heart of the Christian faith. He is not merely a good teacher or a moral prophet; He is fully God and fully man—the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us.
This truth, the Incarnation, is the stunning moment when eternity stepped into time, and the Creator entered His creation. Let’s explore the profound implications of who Jesus is.
The Divine Word
The Gospel of John begins not with a birth narrative, but with a cosmic declaration of Christ’s eternal divinity.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1, NIV)
Jesus, referred to as “the Word” (Logos), is the perfect expression of God’s nature and will. He has always existed in perfect, loving relationship with the Father. He was not created; He is Creator. This establishes His absolute authority and power.
The Word Became Flesh
The most mind-bending miracle isn’t walking on water; it’s God becoming a baby. John 1:14 is the pivot point of all history.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, NIV)
“Became flesh” means He took on humanity completely. He experienced hunger, thirst, sorrow, and pain. “Made his dwelling among us” literally means “pitched his tent” with us. He didn’t just send a message; He came in person. In Jesus, we see the invisible God made visible. We see grace and truth in human form.
The MissionMission of the Son
Jesus came with a clear mission: to reveal the Father and to redeem humanity.
· To Reveal: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father,” Jesus said (John 14:9). He shows us exactly what the Father is like—compassionate, just, and loving.
· To Redeem: He lived the perfect life we could not live and died the sacrificial death we deserved. As both fully God and fully man, He could perfectly represent God to humanity and humanity to God, bridging the gap caused by sin.
A Prayer to the Savior
Jesus, thank you for leaving the glory of heaven to walk this earth. Thank you for experiencing my struggles and for facing temptation yet without sin. Help me to see the Father more clearly through you and to live in the freedom your sacrifice purchased. Amen.
Reflection Question: What does it mean to you personally that God fully understands your human experience because Jesus lived it?
