HELP MY UNBELIEF
The Story Behind the Song
Some time ago, while going through a difficult season, Pastor Cindy Rudolph found herself in a faith crisis. As she called on the Lord, she was reminded of the story recorded in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 9. A father asked Jesus to heal his son, but because he had previously been disappointed, when he petitioned the Lord, he said, “If you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, ‘If you are able!—All things can be done for the one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out, ‘I believe; help my unbelief!’
Years later, Pastor Cindy approached LaShawn D. Gary and Dodi Alexander to partner with her to record the song; she knew the time had come. LaShawn offered his musical genius in a way that took the arrangement to another level. Dodi brilliantly interpreted and executed the song and gave it new life. Together, they created a song that speaks to every believer. The song is a reminder that when we find ourselves wrestling between faith and doubt, we need to cry out to the Lord, “I believe, help my unbelief!”
