The Unchanging God: Your Anchor in a World of Change

Think about how much change you’ve experienced in just the last year. Relationships change. Job markets change. Your health can change in an instant. In a world of constant flux, where can we find a solid place to stand?

The Bible offers us a breathtaking truth: God never changes. Theologians call this His “immutability.” It means His character, His promises, His purposes, and His love are eternally consistent. He is the same forever.

From Everlasting to Everlasting

“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2, NIV)

God exists outside of time. He had no beginning and will have no end. This verse expands our perspective, reminding us that the God we worship today is the same God who spoke creation into existence and will reign for all eternity. His power isn’t fading. His authority isn’t diminishing.

The Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever

This isn’t just an abstract concept about God’s existence; it’s a very practical truth about His faithfulness.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, NIV)

· Yesterday: The Jesus who healed the sick, calmed the storms, and died for you is the same Jesus today.

· Today: His power is undiminished. His compassion is just as strong. His willingness to save and intercede for you has not waned.

· Forever: His promises for your future are absolutely secure. He will not change His mind about you.

Your Rock and Fortress

When your emotions are all over the map, God is constant. When people break promises, God keeps every single one. When you feel like you’re failing, His love for you remains steadfast because it is based on His unchanging nature, not your changing performance.

He is the ultimate source of security. You can build your life upon the rock of who He is, and you will not be shaken (Matthew 7:24-25).

A Prayer for Steadfast Trust

Faithful Father, thank you that you are my rock and my fortress. In a world of uncertainty, your unchanging nature is my safe place. Help me to trust your promises when my feelings are unstable. Anchor my soul in the truth that you are the same yesterday, today, and forever. In Jesus’ steadfast name, Amen.

Reflection Question: Which of God’s promises do you need to cling to today, knowing that He cannot break it?
